Nepal and Varanasi

1-24 October 2008

This fall's trip was split in two. After one day in Delhi to get acclimatized, we flew to Kathmandu for eleven days in Nepal, then to Varanasi for ten days there.

We listened to qawwali at the Tomb of Nizamuddin in Delhi.
We gazed at pagodas, temples and stupas in Kathmandu.
We took a one-hour flight to see the legendary Mount Everest.
We visited Durbar Squares in Patan and Bakhtapur.
We spent a pleasant night in Dhulikehl.
We flew to Pokhara, from where we drove to Sarangot to view dawn on the Annapurna Range of the majestic Himalaya Mountains.
We sweated, looked for rhinos and got to know an elephant named Saraswait at Chitwan National Park.
We were immersed in Buddhism at Bodhnath, near Kathmandu, and visited the nearby Pashupatinath Temple.
