India tour, October 2009
Varanasi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hampi,
Badami, Aihole, Pattadakal, Mahakuta, Goa
This year's trip to India was our longest, with 25 days of traveling in
all, including 8 different plane flights. But is was also one of the
most exciting.
Where we went:
- Varanasi, our standard India site, for the Diwali festival
and to meet our
foster child, Sampa
- Mumbai, our first visit to India's most important city
- Bangalore,
the cleanest city we've seen in India, where we met
some wonderful Facebook "friends"
- Much driving on the worst roads we've seen in India,
even worse than in Tamil Nadu
- Hampi, a miracle of geology and a miracle of ruins
of the former Vijayanagar capital -- the two together are incredible!
- Badami, and nearby
Aihole,
Pattadakal and
Mahakuta, the spot
where the Hindu temple flowered
- Goa, a pleasant beach but an awfully touristy town
(Calangute), a mixture of all that's bad in other beach towns in the US and Europe
