Mahakuta is like an oasis, a tree-shaded area with a clean,
spring-fed
tanks and numerous small temples. People come here not only to worship
in the temples but to cool off and relax and have some fun. There are
lots of people relaxing, praying and swimming in the tank. The water
was very tempting.

The central point of Mahakuta is the spring-fed tank. That day, it
was full of whooping, jumping and splashing young men, having a
wonderful time and escaping from the heat of the day into the cool
water. It was certainly the cleanest (only clean) tank we have seen in
India.

The enclosure contains several small temples decorated with sculpture. And, as always in India, there are monkies to liven up the scene.

Mahakuta was a refreshing and amusing place to visit on the way back from Pattadakal to Badami.
