From Obidos, we "radiated" out to nearby places -- the monastery at Alcobaça, the old spa town of Caldas da Rainha and seaside Sao Martinho do Porto.
We read that there was a market at Caldas da Rainha ("Queen's Spa"), so we went there, And there was.
Nice old buildings at the Praça da Republica
No idea what this was -- sort of an abandoned theme ride
Pretty
One day, we drove up to São Martinho do Porto.
A large, almost enclosed bay with a vast beach
View north from the northern point encircling the bay
Fishermen setting off ... to where?
Way off over there is the New World, and the Portugese sailed around it.

It rained the day we visited the huge Cistercian monastery at Alcobaça on a trip from Óbidos. The monastery was founded in 1153. The church was finished in 1252, but the present facade dates from 1725.
Inside, it is simple, as you expect from Cistercians, but very high and very impressive.
Iimpressive columns in the largest church in Portugal and one of the most vertical.
Ornately carved tomb of Dom Pedro, king from 1357 to 1367,
