This walk is really a spur on the Lünersee Tour, a relatively easy alternative to the Gemslücke walk but still getting you into the lovely, soft, verdant Swiss valley on the other side of the border.
There is our goal, the pass on the other side of the Lünersee.
So it's around the lake we go.
The path up from the lake passes through a field full of thistles and monkshood.
Nice thistles -- Alpen-Kratzdistel
Little stream coming from we have never figured out where.
Looking back at the lake and the Saulakopf/Schaffgafall/Lünerkrinne area.
The path up to the pass is not particularly steep.
THe sign is at the Austrian-Swiss border.
On the Swiss side all is a lush, verdant, soft-looking green.
The path on the Swiss side follows the side of the slope.
Schesaplana and the Gemslücke on the upper right, Switzerland straight ahead.
The path passes near this rock outcropping ....
... and leads on down into the valley.
Flowers here too, though fewer than on the other side. Wonder why.
The Kirchllispitzen loom above the valley.
Murmeltiere among the flowers
Sheep on the green hillside
Siv near a small, a very small, stream
The Kanzelköpfe and the Kirchlispitzen sit on either side of the Gafalljoch.
After crossing the Gafalljoch, we see the good, ol' Lünersee and the Sud-Schafgaffal and Zimba -- old friends.
